Real Estate Assets & Space Management

Facilities and Support Services oversees all the real estate related matters and transactions, as well as space management for the medical campus. The School of Medicine occupies a multitude of buildings that are both owned and leased by the University of Miami. These facilities are located across the state of Florida in various cities including West Palm Beach, Naples, Orlando, Plantation, Ft. Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Weston, Miramar, Miami, Key Biscayne, Miami Lakes and Miami-Dade County (ie - Kendall Area, Coral Reef Area).

Real Estate Assets and Space Management is headed by the Director of Administrative Services.  Under direct guidance from the Assistant Vice President various aspects of property management for the medical school are completed by the Asset Manager with support from the Space Utilization Auditor while interfacing with legal counsel and the Real Estate Office in Coral Gables. These management responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing new leases and existing leases up for renewal
  • Coordinating maintenance services for leased space
  • Reviewing lease funding letters during the budget approval process
  • Assisting in the development of commercial leasing
  • Facilitating the relocation process in a timely manner
  • Allocating space according to departmental needs and availability
  • Preparing feasibility studies for real estate related business opportunities
  • Reconciling rent and operational accounts
  • Maintaining a software program that contains all real estate lease information
  • Developing and coordinating new UM satellite sites and programs
  • Coordinating the installation and continued service of telecommunications and network services for occupied properties
  • Executing special projects, as assigned
